In terms of the size of the foundry market, IC Insights estimates that in the pure foundry market, which does not include the foundry business of IDM factories such as Samsung and Intel, the market size decreased by 1% year-on-year to US$57 billion last year, but it will grow this year. 19% to $67.7 billion, the highest growth rate in nearly seven years. As 5G will drive strong demand for many application chips in the next few years, the pure-play foundry market is expected to grow by another 7% to $72.6 billion in 2021.
The report pointed out that the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the pure wafer foundry market from 2014 to 2019 reached 6.0%, but the CAGR from 2019 to 2014 will increase by 3.8 percentage points to 9.8%, which is better than the global average in the same period. The IC market CAGR is about 7.3%.
